Justin Bieber’s Not Coming To Singapore, And Netizens Are Infuriated
After cancelling the rest of his much-anticipated Purpose Tour, including the Purpose Tour concert in Singapore, pop star Justin Bieber has finally given fans an explanation for the move.
According to entertainment website TMZ, he said that having been on the road for 2 years, he was looking forward to some R&R:
Just resting, getting some relaxation. We’re gonna ride some bikes.
No More Purpose?
Apart from that very illuminating statement, Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun took to social media to issue a public apology to Beliebers.
In his Instagram post, Mr Braun revealed that the star was drained after he had given “his all night after night” .
An incredible run. Congrats to @justinbieber on an incredible tour and thank you to the entire cast and crew for your unending support. Chris and Nick thank you. AEG thank you. Caa thank you. UMG thank you. @sb_projects Team thank you. To the promoters who believed around the world thank you. To the fans from all over the world who took part over the last 16 months over 6 continents thank you. To Justin who gave it his all night after night thank you. And to those that won’t be able to see it… on behalf of myself, Justin, and the team, we are sorry. That was never our intent. But a man’s soul and well being I truly care about came first and We must all respect and honor that. Justin will be back and I know he looks forward to performing for you and with you all again. One chapter ends and another begins. Thank you again. Now please stop commenting on all my other photos that have nothing to do with this 🙂 just kidding….but I’m not 😂. Jokes aside your support for Justin is inspiring. Cheers.
He also suggested that the exhaustion had started to take a toll on Bieber, claiming that “a man’s soul and well being I truly care about came first and we must all respect and honour that”.
Mr Braun’s Facebook page suggested Bieber’s issues were prevalent as early as March.
In a text to an anonymous friend, he offered words of encouragement to a “close friend” who was mentally exhausted — could it have been Bieber himself?
Go “Love Himself”
However, many Singaporeans didn’t seem sympathetic to Bieber’s issues.
With there already being a huge anti-Bieber contingent, the cancellation of his tour to “ride bikes” only resulted in more hate for the singer, as can be seen from these posts.
Other speculated that there may be other reasons for the cancellation of the tour.
After all, just last week, China banned Bieber for “bad behaviour”, reported The Guardian.
Calling him a “controversial young foreign singer”, Beijing’s culture bureau cited his repeated misdemeanours and was quoted by The Guardian as saying:
As far as we are concerned, he has engaged in a series of bad behaviours, both in his social life and during a previous performance in China, which caused discontent among the public.
Other sources close to TMZ cited another, more mind-boggling reason: that Bieber had cancelled the tour due to religious enlightenment.
According to TMZ, Bieber has been spotted with Hillsong Church pastor Carl Lentz recently, and the duo were even at a huge church event in Australia.
Depression Is Real
With Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington suspected of committing suicide, perhaps Singaporeans should ease the hate on Bieber.
After all, depression is a real thing and has taken the lives of many a star, including the beloved Robin Williams.
Even though he is rich beyond our wildest dreams, and has proven to be controversial at times, if Bieber is really mentally exhausted, we hope he can get well soon.
