The much-loved deejay will be hosting his last show tomorrow
The Flying Dutchman (FD), host of The Gold Breakfast Show on Gold 90.5FM, announced this morning (30 December) that he will be leaving MediaCorp. The 58-year-old, whose real name is Mark van Cuylenburg, shared that he wants to pursue his own interests, such as travelling with his wife.
This came as a surprise to many, after FD’s 18 years of dedication to MediaCorp – of which, 17 were spent hosting Class 95FM’s The Morning Express, then over a year on The Gold Breakfast Show with Vernetta Lopez. FD’s last show will be tomorrow morning.
FD revealed about tomorrow’s show:
(I will) reminisce on all the good and bad times I’ve had on radio. There’s probably going to be a lot of the bad tomorrow.
Fans of the show need not despair, for the show will still go on with Vernetta helming it solo.
FD’s career as a DJ started in the 1970s with Rediffusion, prior to joining MediaCorp in 1996. His long career has turned him into one of Singapore’s most popular radio personalities. FD said:
It’s been an incredible 18 years but life is about evolving, it’s about change and change has to be embraced. It’s very exciting.
Fans who woke up to FD’s voice every morning are not taking the news well, using social media to convey their messages to FD.
When asked about a possibility to return to the airwaves, FD chose to not say never:
I’ll never say that it’s an outright no – but even if I do come back to radio, it’ll probably be a part-time stint.
Fingers crossed about that! In the meantime, we would definitely miss hearing his charming voice through the airwaves, but we also thank him for all the joy he has brought us throughout these 18 years. We wish him the very best for his future endeavours!
