Singapore Really Really Free Market (SRRFM)
Freebies. The mere mention of this word has the power to get any kiasu Singaporean’s undivided attention.
And before you know it, endless snake-like queues will be formed as locals jostle with the crowd and burn their precious time just to lay their hands on free items.
If you’re a huge fan of receiving items and services without having to spend a single cent (let’s face it, you probably are), then the Singapore Really Really Free Market (SRRFM) would be perfect for you.
Free For All
And can you believe it? The SRRFM was started way, way back in 2009, and we hadn’t heard of it!
Founded on Jan 18, 2009, the SRRFM will be having its 49th edition of the market on June 10 (Saturday).
The unique concept market encourages people to give and share resources with one another.
From items like books, toys and music albums, to skills like drawing, writing and tarot card reading, everyone and anyone is invited to come down in the spirit of giving and receiving.
It’s a great way to evoke Singapore’s fabled kampung spirit, don’t you think?
And to facilitate this kampung spirit, several mats are available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you have mats to lend the organisers for the event, please bring them on the day.
Let’s take a look at some of the previous editions of the market so we roughly know what to expect.
Quirky hand-drawn bookmarks, shoes and clothes anyone?
Bookworms may be spoilt for choice at the plethora of publications to pick from:
Or if your aching body desperately needs some tender loving care, you can treat yourself to free massages.
Free henna tattoo services were also provided:
Live gigs were on show as talented musicians entertained the crowd:
While strangers pit their wits against each other in an intellectual game of chinese chess:
Apart from the freebies that are up for grabs, the market seems like a great place for one to mingle with strangers and make new friends.
And if you want to do more, volunteers are welcomed to help sort out items, guide visitors, man the SRRFM booth etc. during the event. Drop an e-mail to [email protected] if you would like to help.
If you are interested in heading down to share your items, do leave a post on the SRRFM Facebook wall — but the SRRFM reserves the right to turn away people and items that are deemed unsuitable.
Due to lack of storage space and manpower, all items left over at the end of the session will be disposed of. As such, please plan to stick around or come back at the end to claim your remaining items. If you have a vehicle and will drive the leftover items to a charity, please let the organisers know!
Location: 120A Prinsep Street, Singapore 187937
Time: 2pm to 6pm

P.S. There is no rain plan. If it rains, just wait it out!
