Grenade Scare At Penang Lane Was Found To Be A Toy

On Friday (3 Nov), a grenade-shaped toy was found at Penang Road.

This led to the temporary closure of Penang Lane for roughly an hour in the early evening.


Channel NewsAsia reported that the object was located outside Singapore Shopping Centre at the junction of Penang Lane and Penang Road.

Mysterious grenade-like object found

At 4:20pm, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) sent out a tweet reporting that they were attending to the mysterious object.

They also urged members of the public to refrain from speculating and to avoid the area during the investigation.

This resulted in the closure of Penang Lane.

Officers immediately cordoned off the area.


Whilst men in green jumpsuits were seen entering the premises with equipment.

Object revealed to be a toy

Thankfully, just an hour later, it was reported that the mysterious object was just a toy resembling a grenade.

Upon which Penang Lane was reopened to members of the public.

Whether or not the incident was a prank remains to be seen.
