Did the man fall or jump from the 5th floor of Wisma?

At approximately 9.50pm yesterday (10 Dec), shoppers heard a loud thud and were greeted with a nasty shock as a man fell 5 storeys down from Wisma Atria shopping centre.

The police later announced that the 48-year-old Indonesian man passed away at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), and will be investigating this case as an unnatural death.

An eyewitness, 31-year-old Mr Cheok said:

The man was lying face-down and there was blood everywhere, and blood coming out of his ears too.

We can imagine everybody’s face going…

Photos of the gory incident have since surfaced online.

What happened

Mr Cheok was having dinner with his friend, Ernest — who is an Accident and Emergency doctor — when the incident took place. Upon realising what had happened, Ernest rushed down to the first floor with his stethoscope and performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the victim. He was assisted by a woman who works as a nurse.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was also alerted to the incident and sent an ambulance to the scene.

A SCDF spokesperson said:

Upon SCDF’s arrival, members of the public, including a man and a woman who identified themselves as a doctor and a nurse, were already administering CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) on an unconscious man.

On the way to SGH, the paramedics continued administering CPR on the unconscious man.

Was it a suicide?

A spokesperson of YTL Star Global REIT, which manages the mall, said:

Based on CCTV footage, the man appeared to have jumped from the fifth floor next to the escalator.

We will update this case as it unfolds.
