S’poreans Can Use New Zealand Automated Passport Kiosks From 12 Feb
Planning a trip to New Zealand soon?
If that’s the case, you’ll be pleased to know that Singaporeans will now be able to make use of automated passport controls in New Zealand, starting Tuesday (12 Feb).
You know what that means, say goodbye to snaking queues that are synonymous with manual passport controls.
Aged 12 & above can use eGates
This latest initiative is part of the Singapore-New Zealand Enhanced Partnership that is expected to boost trade, business, and tourism between both countries.
To make use of the automated passport machines, aka eGates, Singaporean travellers need only meet 2 requirements,
- Aged 12 and above
- Have an ePassport
Here’s a quick look at the eGates found in Singapore.
Basically, these machines allow travellers to scan their passports by themselves. In most cases, this takes significantly less time, as compared to conventional manual passport controls.
These eGate facilities are available at 4 airports across New Zealand, namely:
- Auckland Airport
- Wellington Airport
- Christchurch Airport
- Queenstown Airport
So if you’re planning a trip to any of these cities, remember to hop right over to the automated passport control lane.
NZ nationals can use eGates in Singapore too
As part of this initiative, New Zealand nationals will also be able to make use of eGate facilities in Singapore, after they apply for Singapore’s Frequent Traveller Programme.
New Zealand nationals have to meet these requirements to be eligible for the programme:
- Aged 6 & above
- Have more than 6 months’ validity on their passports
- Visited Singapore at least twice in the past 2 years
