Free Public Transport For Men In Uniform
In commemoration of NS 50, the public transport operators Go-Ahead Singapore, SBS Transit, SMRT Corporation and Tower Transit Singapore, have issued a press release giving free public transport to all past and present national servicemen, next Friday (June 30).
According to Channel NewsAsia, the move was to “provide a boost to NS50 activities held across Singapore”, said SMRT CEO Desmond Quek.
The NS50 Free Travel Day shall begin with the first bus on June 30, and shall end when the last bus or train service ceases. This even includes premium services like Nite Owl and NightRider.
However, you have to don your No.3/No.4 uniform for SAF personnel or your duty uniforms if you are in the SCDF or SPF, in order to enjoy free transport.
For a free train ride, just approach the staff at the Passenger Service station and they shall open the gantry for you.
Although we cannot understand why a serviceman has to wear his uniform to get the free rides, we’ll take what we can get.
However it is going to be a little cool to see the horde of green soldiers at the train stations and the bus stops.
