Primary 6 Students Attend First Day Of School In May With Tighter Covid-19 Measures

After taking a break for close to a month, some Primary 6 students across the island headed back to schools for their first day of learning on Tuesday (19 May).

Schools, staff & students were well-prepared to ensure that lessons were conducted in a safe manner.

Here’s a summary of the new measures taken to curb Covid-19 in our schools, for teachers, parents & staff alike.

Staggered arrival & dismissal timings

Today (19 May) marks the first day of school in May for Primary 6 students who will be preparing for PSLE exams this year.

To minimise crowding, students we spoke to shared that schools provided staggered arrival & dismissal timings in advance.

No crowding or gathering in common areas like canteens, hallways & school halls were allowed either.

Regular temp-screening at school gates

Regular temperature taking at school entries & exits will also be conducted, and all students & staff members are expected to comply.

Differently coloured stickers on each school day after clearing the screening will help the tracking process.

Do note that it is compulsory for check-ins & check-outs to be done before and after school via SafeEntry for all returning staff & students.

Students must bring masks, IDs & observe social distancing

Masking up is compulsory at all times within school premises & on the journey home.

To prepare for lessons, students should remember to bring the following:

• Student IDs for SafeEntry verification
• Face masks – reuseable ones are recommended

There should also be little to no movement within classrooms, and students should stay seated on their allocated seats during lessons.

Teachers will lead students in wiping down their seats after lessons are complete.

Teachers use face shields & microphones to conduct lessons

Face shields and/or masks in classrooms are required to be used by teachers who will adhere to pre-assigned seating plans for students.

Personal microphones will be used to ensure volume, and that instructors’ voices may be projected to the back of the classroom.

With schools gradually reopening in the context of additional measures taken to ensure a safe learning environment for all — we do hope that students, parents & staff will do their due diligence in helping to observe the protocol too.
