Star Wars Festival At Gardens By The Bay

It’s time to whip out those lightsabers and dust off the dirt from your Stormtrooper costume — you might just need them the next time you go to the Gardens By The Bay.

In conjunction with Star Wars Day on May the 4th (be with you), which is on Thursday, the 3-day Star Wars Festival will be held that same weekend.

Packed with all sorts of activities and exhibits, Star Wars junkies will be drooling like Jabba The Hutt.

Better still, most of the events are free!

Sabertrees

After the sun has set, some of Gardens By The Bay’s futuristic Supertrees will be transformed to “Sabertrees” — coloured light will be beamed from them, so they can resemble gigantic lightsabers.

No word yet on whether they will emit with the distinctive “vwoom vwoom” sound or not.

Date: May 4 to 6, 2017

Time: 8pm to 12am

Venue: Supertree Grove

Garden Rhapsody

It’s not all lightsaber duels at the Supertree Grove. If you’re a huge fan of the series’ soundtracks, you imagine you’re at the Mos Eisley Cantina there, when classic Star Wars music can be heard 2 times a night during the 15-min music-and-light show Garden Rhapsody: Star Wars Edition.

Chewbacca & Kylo Ren

Meet and greet 2 of your favourite Star Wars characters, one hero and one from the Dark Side, as they will be travelling through the galaxy just to celebrate the festival with us.

This will be the first time these characters are making an appearance in South-east Asia, so don’t miss the chance to snap a picture with them. #forthegram

We just hope these 2 characters who are intricately linked to Han Solo (one is his best friend, the other’s his son) don’t end up dueling instead of taking photos with us.

(Spoiler alert: Kylo Ren killed Han Solo, to the anguish of Chewbacca.)

AT-ST Walker

The All-Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST), an iconic battle vehicle first introduced in the Battle Of Hoth, will be standing tall at the Supertree Grove throughout the whole festival.

You can hop over to the OCBC Skyway for a closer view of this towering artifact.

Though you won’t be able to ride on this massive bipedal cavalry vehicle, we think a picture with it would suffice.

Star Wars Run

The first of its kind here, participants will get to choose between the Light Side or Dark Side, which will determine the kind of route one has to race through.

And for your lung-busting efforts you’ll be rewarded with a limited-edition medal, drawstring bag, a T-shirt, plush toy and towel.

Read our story on the Star Wars Run for more details, including ticket pricing.

Silent Disco

Unlike the “normal” clubs, at a silent disco, people dance while listening to music on wireless headphones, so those not in the party mood can still have peace and quiet.

At this silent disco, partygoers can rave the night away and break into that robot dance that will make R2-D2 and C-3PO proud.

If you’re a participant of the Star Wars Run, make sure to hold onto your race bibs and you’ll be granted priority entry to the Silent Disco on May 6.

Fan Activities

There will also be a variety of activities like exhibitions and demonstrations where you can feast your eyes on vintage toy collections and fan art and purchase Star Wars-related merchandise.

And you don’t have to feel bad for splurging on the merchandise, as all proceeds from the sales will go to The KK Women’s And Childrens’ Hospital Health Endowment Fund, meaning you can contribute to a meaningful cause despite burning a hole in your wallet.

A New Happening

This year’s Star Wars Festival also marks the 40th anniversary of A New Hope, the very first Star Wars movie.

So go and have a blast! The force is strong in this festival.
