Minister-in-Charge of the Smart Nation Initiative Vivian Balakrishnan is officially a cool kid — now that he’s rode in a driverless car.

How cool is that.

And as the unofficial Minister of Geek, he has shared his driverless car ride experience with a super long post on Facebook with pictures (yes pictures!!11!) and a video of his experience.

This autonomous vehicle was created by I2R/A*STAR in just a span of just 9 months in line with the SMART Nation initiative.

Today, we’ll be sharing some tips on riding a driverless cars in style to stay super cool and hip like Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

But before that, let’s check out Minister Balakrishnan’s experience:

Step 1. Always buckle up

This is basically the holy grail rule everyone should follow to ride in style. Safety is always important be it a driverless car or nah. Always make sure to buckle up your seatbelt. If the cool kid does it, you do it too.

Step 2. Always choose the backseat

Not sure which seat to take? Well here’s a hint, you’ll never go wrong with the backseat. Backseats are the new black especially when it comes to a driverless car. Don’t wanna get all the techy stuff in our view now don’t we?

Step 3. Film your entire journey

You just have to film the entire ride using your smart phone, because how else are you going to show off to your friends and family about your sick new experience right!?

Oh and you have to do it with maximum concentration, just like Vivian.

Step 4. Interrupt your tour guide

Sometimes you just can’t conceal your excitement anymore, but you need to find away to reveal your excitement in a cool way. Let’s see how the cool kid went about it.

As observed, you’ll have to tilt your body forwards, still holding onto your video recording smart phone, and interrupt your tour guide by calling the robot a child.

In just a short span of time, Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has already assumed authority of this contraption by calling the robot a mere child.

Do you see the robot child?

However this ‘child’ is really helpful, as it plays the “eyes” of the car. The robot child will help detect whatever’s happening in the surroundings (eg oncoming cars), this data will then be transmitted to the car to process and absorb the information so as to avoid any oncoming dangers.

Step 5. Show off the inner geek

With such cool contraptions, it gets hard to contain yourself sometimes. Even the coolest of kids have their geeky moments — just like Minister Balakrishnan.

Always remember to give your goofiest smile to prevent drooling and any other un-cool geeky stuff which you might be prone too.

Step 6. Don’t forget to touch everything

Last but not least, never forget the most important step — pictures of yourself touching everything. While we have established that the backseat is cooler than the front seat, the inner geek in you would be naturally attracted to all the techy stuff in the front seat. For example, the automated steering wheel.

Touch it. Pose with it even.

Random joystick thingy? NAILED IT.

Oh oh and you can’t possibly forget the front of the vehicle. That’s the most important spot!
