11 Covid-19 Deaths Reported On 12 Oct As Daily Cases Approach 3,000 Again

Singapore Reports 11 Covid-19 Deaths On 12 Oct

Over the weekends, Singaporeans heaved a collective sigh of relief as our daily Covid-19 figures seemingly dipped below 3,000. The Ministry of Health (MOH) clarified that this could be due to fewer tests being done at clinics and polyclinics.

On Tuesday (12 Oct), MOH reported 2,976 new cases, a slight increase from the days before, as well as 11 casualties who passed away due to Covid-19 complications.

11 Covid-19 deaths on 12 Oct involve seniors aged 66 & above

Aged between 66 and 98 years old, all 11 fatalities reported on Tuesday (12 Oct) had underlying medical conditions.

Among them, only 2 had been fully vaccinated. Here’s a breakdown of their vaccination statuses:

  • 2 vaccinated
  • 6 partially vaccinated
  • 3 unvaccinated

Over the past 16 days, 104 patients have succumbed to their Covid-19 complications.

Of those who passed away from Covid-19 over the past 28 days, the vast majority, or 73.4% were not fully vaccinated.

Health Minister expresses relief over absence of spike on 12 Oct

Despite the slight increase in cases MOH reported on 12 Oct, the figures are still considerably lower than reports between 5 and 9 Oct. Daily case numbers were hovering around the 3,500 mark then.

Health Minister Ong Ye Kung also took to Facebook to share his relief.

According to him, Tuesdays have been particularly anxious days as that’s when cases detected on Mondays would be reported. Cases have reportedly always spiked after the weekends.

Mr Ong attributed this to the “stabilising measures” that are in place, which have slowed down the current wave of cases, and in particular, their doubling time.

291 patients require oxygen treatment or ICU care

Despite the relatively low number of cases, Mr Ong remains concerned about the number of patients who are seriously ill.

As of 12 Oct, 291 patients require oxygen treatment while 42 are receiving ICU care.

The majority of them continue to be those aged 61 and above, indicated by the boxes in grey.

Of the 99 cases linked, 85 involve residents at the nursing home and 13 are staff members.

The remaining individual is a household member of someone who tested positive.

Do not take the fall in cases for granted

It’s certainly a relief that our daily case counts did not spike over the weekend, possibly showing that our tightened restrictions are bearing fruit.

Residents, however, should not take this for granted and must continue to be vigilant during this volatile period.

MS News extends our sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased.
