2nd DBS Employee At Ngee Ann City Infected With Covid-19, Was Close Contact Of 1st

On 17 Feb, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that a close contact of a DBS employee infected with Covid-19 also had the virus.

The 35-year-old is also a DBS employee and works at Ngee Ann City Tower A on the 24th floor.

Ngee Ann City’s management has sealed off and deep-cleaned the affected floor, which is believed to be Level 24, reported The Straits Times (ST).

Management have also cleaned and disinfected common lifts and toilets of the building.

DBS says 2nd case was already under quarantine since last week

Case 77, as the employee is referred to by MOH, has been under quarantine since last week owing to his close contact with Case 50, a 62-year-old.

A DBS spokesperson told MS News that,

The second case was a first-degree contact – i.e. an individual who was in close contact with the first case – and as of last week, had already been placed under quarantine.

The employee had worked at DBS’ satellite office – Ngee Ann City Tower A – and the place has been deep-cleaned as per MOH and National Environment Agency guidelines.

The spokesperson added,

We have a framework for contact tracing, which we execute through a mix of physical interviews and data analytics. Through this, we are able to contact-trace up to 3 degrees of separation.

DBS stressed that they’re giving support to their affected employees, including having basic grocery packs delivered.

A medical helpline, as well as virtual doctors are additional resources that have also been put in place for all employees.

DBS’s swift measures should calm Singaporeans down, no need to avoid Ngee Ann City

There may yet be more DBS employees infected with Covid-19, and it would not surprise us either.

However, DBS appears ready to identify and proactively take measures to seek out & quarantine the infected, given their contact tracing framework.

Additionally, the affected offices have been disinfected and as such, Singaporeans shouldn’t specially avoid Ngee Ann City, especially the shopping areas.

Therefore, there should be no cause for alarm.
