Customer finds mould on discounted Oreo cheesecake from Esplanade MRT 7-Eleven, replacement mouldy too

Customer discovers mould on 7-Eleven Oreo cheesecake, investigations ongoing

A customer at 7-Eleven was left “stunned” after discovering mould on an Oreo cheesecake she bought at a discount.

While the staff offered to exchange her item, she found that its replacement was mouldy as well, despite being sold at full price.

Speaking to MS News, the original poster (OP) said she picked up the cheesecake from the 7-Eleven outlet at Esplanade MRT Station on 12 Nov at around 12.45pm.

In a TikTok video, she noted that the item was going at 25% off, even though it was still a day before its best-before date.

After peeling open the packaging, the OP said she was shocked to see visible specks of mould on the lid.

Replacement item also mouldy, customer asks for refund

In response to queries by MS News, the OP said staff immediately offered an exchange when she flagged the issue.

But to her surprise, the new cheesecake — which was not discounted this time — also appeared to have mould.

Although she wasn’t completely certain, she said she “didn’t want to take [her] chances”.

The staff then offered her a refund for her purchase.

The OP told MS News she has “always enjoyed” 7-Eleven’s ready-to-eat food, and she frequents this particular outlet.

She added that she has purchased other flavours of the same cheesecake many times without any issue, making this the first time she has ever encountered mould in her food.

The OP confirmed that 7-Eleven has since reached out to her, and investigations involving the store and its suppliers are underway.

MS News has reached out to 7-Eleven for a statement on the matter.

Discounted price ‘not an excuse’, say netizens

The video alarmed many netizens, with several saying they might not have noticed the mould at all and that the OP was lucky to have spotted it before consumption.

One commenter said this was why they avoided discounted food items, to which the OP clarified that the full-priced replacement was mouldy too.

Another user pointed out that a 25% discount is “not an excuse” to sell mouldy food, adding that doing so is “against food regulations”.
