Cabby Accelerates Instead Of Braking And Causes Gleneagles Accident

Driver Accidentally Stepped On Accelerator And Crashed Into 3 Other Cars

In a cruel twist of fate, a 70-year-old man died outside Gleneagles Hospital on Thursday (4 October). He died after a 4-vehicle accident at the entrance of the hospital, although it isn’t clear if the accident caused his death.

Reports suggest that the man was visiting the hospital for a medical check-up for a heart condition.

Wrong foot

The deceased was in a Trans-Cab taxi with his 42-year-old son.

A video from the taxi’s in-vehicle camera shows that the taxi was moving when there was a sudden impact on its right.

At the time, an SMRT taxi was turning into the hospital’s service road.

The Straits Times reported that the driver of the SMRT taxi was stopping to let his passengers alight when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.

This caused the SMRT taxi to speed forward and crash into the Trans-Cab taxi.

It then continued to move and collided into a car entering the service road as well as another car exiting.

Gleneagles staff attended to the injured

Staff at Gleneagles Hospital’s accident and emergency department attended to the injured.

Unfortunately, the 70-year-old Trans-Cab passenger later died. The exact cause of his death is unknown.

One of the taxi drivers, believed to be the 62-year-old SMRT cabby, was taken to National University Hospital (NUH).

Although two other vehicles were involved in the accident, no details of other casualties have been disclosed.

Police investigations ongoing

The police are carrying out further investigations. In the meantime, we hope that the public won’t speculate about the accident since no further details have been provided.

We at MustShareNews extend our sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased.
