A chicken rice stall in Kuching, Sarawak, is creating a stir online with its aeroplane-inspired theme.
The newly launched No-Show Chicken Rice was recently spotlighted on the 126 LAKSA Facebook page and quickly went viral for its playful twist on travel and food.
The stall’s name is a cheeky play on words in Chinese.
Fang Fei Ji, its Chinese name, combines the characters for “chicken” and “plane”, which share the same pronunciation.
If “plane” were used instead of “chicken”, it would mean “no-show”, cleverly tying into its English name.
The aeroplane theme carries over to the dish names.
Rather than sticking with standard labels like “steamed chicken rice” or “fried chicken rice”, No-Show Chicken Rice gives its dishes travel class-inspired names.
Diners can opt for the basic “Economy Class” option or ‘upgrade’ to “Premium Economy”, “Business Class”, or the exclusive “First Class”.
The “First Class” dish adds a playful twist, featuring three question marks on the plate, leaving its contents a mystery.
Beyond “First Class”, the stall also offers a “flight plus hotel” package — a chicken dish for five people, priced at RM40 (about S$12).
In a nod to flight delays, the final dish is humorously named “Curry Delay”.
Under a section called “Add On For Your Trip”, diners can enhance their meal with a “seat” (rice), “travel protection” (cucumber), and “baggage allowance” (takeaway).
Additional ‘tickets’ are available too: “adult” (steamed chicken) and “child” (crispy chicken).
The theme doesn’t stop there — the hawkers join in by dressing as pilots, complete with white uniforms and epaulettes.
126 LAKSA’s post quickly went viral, earning over 7,800 likes, with a repost in another Facebook group gathering an additional 7,700 likes.
“Very dedicated! Even the staff uniforms are like pilots,” one netizen remarked.
Another commenter joked about claiming a loss from “travel insurance” if their chicken rice order happened to not show up.
One user also compared the mysterious “First Class” dish to a gacha blind box, adding to the playful buzz around the stall.
