Mahjong is not only a social game but also, apparently, one that helps keep the mind sharp. But of course, if you’re wringing your brain 8-6 in office everyday, that latter part may not be quite relevant.
Nevertheless, mahjong may just be a skill you’d want to pick up to have a game with your friends, aunt, uncle, grandfather or grandmother.
An AirBNB in Khatib is offering to teach you or your friends mahjong for a small fee. If you’ve got friends from overseas coming over and they were intrigued by the game of tiles during the movie Crazy Rich Asians, this wouldn’t be a bad activity of choice.
You can view more pictures of past sessions on the host’s Instagram page @mahjonglah.
The host even provides learning sheets — the instructions, especially if you don’t understand chinese characters, can be quite overwhelming if taken all at once.
The activity is conducted in English and lasts 2.5 hours. Food and drinks will be provided. After all, mahjong is a merry social affair and what’s a merry social affair without light snacks to nibble on?
The price of a session starts from $55. If you book in a group of 4, it’s $200, which means you save a total of $20.
If you happen to have a group of friends who are interested in mahjong and you really want to learn it in time for Chinese New Year next year where you can finally join your aunties and uncles at the table, better hurry and book your slots now. Once you know the basics, you can start brushing up on your skills.
