AMK Hub Street Food Fair Is Like A Mini Bangkok Night Market In Your Neighbourhood

Ang Mo Kio Hub Food Fair Features A Mix Of Overseas Street Food

If the recent Netflix show about street food has intensified your craving for them, a food fair parked at the front entrance of Ang Mo Kio (AMK) Hub is here to satiate.

The AMK Hub Food Fair opened its tent on Friday (17 May).

The fair features a flavourful mix of street food, including a special Black Squid Takoyaki, Indonesian-style fried banana with cheese (Pisang Keju), as well as familiar favourites like Lok Lok, Thai Milk Tea, and Grilled King Oyster Mushrooms.

Let’s have a look at the selections.

A street food smorgasbord

One of the food fair’s specialties is the Black Squid Takoyaki. The crispy batter is made using squid ink, which gives the Japanese ball-shaped snack its darker than usual appearance. This is a perfect primer for Osaka’s famous “Ninja Takoyaki“.

Next up, we have the famous Bugis Street Kaya Balls — crusty on the outisde and soft and sweet on the inside. Other fillings include cheese, Nutella, and of course, our national favourite, Durian.

You may be familiar with the Malay dish, goreng pisang aka fried banana. At the food fair, you’ll find something called Pisang Keju, which is a fried banana sprinkled with an abundance of cheese.

If you’re going light, opt for some deep-fried/barbecued skewers. Bangkok Lok Lok has all the usual favourites like fried squid, fishballs, seaweed chicken, and many more.

Japanese pizza, or Okonomiyaki, is a fried, savoury pancake that is quite quite similar to Takoyaki. You might have already noticed the ‘yaki’ in the names of both dishes, except both have different fillings.

Known as King Oyster Mushrooms, these mushrooms are perfect for grilling because of how well they retain water. The springy texture, with its marinated skin, should give your taste buds a real treat.

The true blue Singaporeans will know this next dish as Min Jiang Kueh. The normal ones are soft. But sometimes, you find the crispy kinds, often filled with peanut or red bean.

In case you missed out on the many Ramadan bazaars, you can still pick up a Ramly burger at the AMK Food Fair.

Those who have a taste for kebab can also have their fill with some Arabica döner kebab. The juicy slices of meat rolled up in thin flatbread was actually invented in the 19th century during Ottoman Empire.

Every delicious meal has got to be washed down by an equally delicious drink. Besides, the weather in Singapore is always warm enough to beckon a cold drink. The famous 555 Thai milk tea comes in the usual original and green milk tea flavours.

At the end of it all, why not treat yourself to a sugary finish with this gorgeous pancake souffle topped with adorable marshmellows?

Fair runs from 17 May to 2 Jun

The AMK Hub Food Fair runs daily from 11am to 11pm, now till 2 Jun.

So if you’re craving a post-dinner snack, or you’re just bored of the usual restaurant and hawker selections, you can always hop down to the conveniently-located bazaar.
