Aphrodisiac chocolate in US recalled after they were found to have undeclared Viagra ingredients

Aphrodisiac chocolate maker in US recalls product after undeclared Viagra ingredients found

An adult novelty store in the United States (US) issued a recall for its aphrodisiac chocolates.

The products were discovered to have potentially harmful amounts of ingredients that are also found in Viagra.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published an announcement on 26 March detailing the voluntary recall issued by the company.

Sex-themed chocolate was potentially harmful

The release stated that Gear Isle, a Sacramento-based company, is voluntarily recalling two chocolates from consumers. This is because they had found “undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients, sildenafil and tadalafil”.

These substances are commonly known to treat erectile dysfunction.

The two chocolates recalled are Gold Lion Aphrodisiac Chocolate Male Enhancement Sachet and Ilum Sex Chocolate Male Sexual Enhancement Booster.

Tag lines on the products promised better experiences in the bedroom with lines like “have better sex” and “make love making more desirable”.

The risk statement said that the substances may interact with some prescription drugs and cause a life-threatening drop in blood pressure.

At the time of writing, Gear Isle has thus far not received any reports of incidents related to this particular recall.

Refunds offered for customers

The products were sold as dietary supplements on their website, according to People magazine.

Gear Isle has sent letters to their customers notifying them of the recall.

“Consumers who have the product(s) that are being recalled should stop using them and return them for a refund,” FDA said in the statement.

Additionally, the company also urged customers to contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have a health-related issue after consuming the product.
