On Wednesday (20 Nov), a woman in Chiayi City, Taiwan, gave birth to a baby girl while she was using the toilet inside her home.
The woman, who attributed the lack of menstruation over the past few months to stress, had not known that she was pregnant.
According to the First Branch of the Chiayi City Police Department, the 23-year-old lived with her mother, Mrs Lin, on Chongqing 2nd Street.
In the late hours of Wednesday, Mrs Lin suddenly heard her daughter screaming in the bathroom, prompting her to rush over and check in on her, as reported by Oriental Daily.
Upon reaching the toilet, Mrs Lin was shocked to see that her equally befuddled daughter had given birth to a baby girl.
She immediately stepped forward and picked up the newborn. However, the baby girl was unresponsive.
Mrs Lin tried to call the baby and gently patted her but the newborn did not cry or make any sound.
According to Oriental Daily, the police said that Mrs Lin immediately dialled the emergency services number and the newborn was conveyed to the hospital for treatment.
However, despite efforts to revive her, the baby girl did not survive.
The police said Mrs Lin’s daughter had missed her period for many months. However, the young woman thought that this was because of stress and therefore did not think much of it.
Furthermore, as the young woman had a plump figure, her family had not noticed that she was pregnant.
It is unknown if she knew the father of the baby.
