Mum in S’pore gives birth in toilet, newborn dies after falling to ground

Baby girl dies from fall after mother gives birth in toilet

A mother, determined to raise her child despite the biological father’s objections, hid her pregnancy from her family and unexpectedly gave birth at home.

Unfortunately, the baby girl fell to the ground during delivery and later died in hospital.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred on 19 Sept last year.

After delivering her baby in a home toilet, the mother and newborn were rushed to the hospital.

Tragically, the baby was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The coroner’s court began an inquest into the baby’s death on Monday (2 Dec), ruling the case as unresolved.

Government lawyers requested and obtained an injunction preventing the media from disclosing the identities of the deceased’s family or the location of the incident.

Woman hid pregnancy from family

The investigating officer testified that the mother was living with her stepfather, mother, three siblings, and a domestic helper at the time of the incident.

She discovered her pregnancy in March last year and informed the baby’s biological father, who expressed no intention of raising the child.

Despite this, the mother decided to keep the baby but chose to conceal the pregnancy from her family.

Unexpected birth in home toilet

On the day of the incident, the mother unexpectedly gave birth while using the toilet at home.

The baby girl fell to the ground during delivery, and the mother briefly fainted.

Upon regaining consciousness, she wrapped the baby in a towel and placed her in a bucket.

Later, family members discovered the baby, and both the mother and newborn were taken to the hospital.

Tragically, the baby girl was pronounced dead at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital at approximately 3pm that day.

Police rule out homicide, cause of death unknown

An autopsy revealed that the newborn was undernourished.

Scars on her scalp were consistent with the fall during birth, but no severe injuries were found.

The medical examiner concluded that the cause of death could not be determined.

Further police investigations confirmed that the family was unaware of the mother’s pregnancy.

Her search history showed she had looked up information about premature births, indicating she was unprepared for the delivery and had no intention of abandoning the baby.

Additionally, after regaining consciousness, the woman showed care and concern for her newborn.

The coroner stated that the cause of death remained unknown, and police have ruled out homicide, classifying the case as unsolved.
