58-Year-Old Woman Went To Work At Bishan MRT After Onset Of Covid-19 Symptoms On 14 May

Woman Who Worked At Bishan MRT Last Thursday Is Among 2 New Community Cases On 18 May

Although Singapore reported only 2 new Covid-19 cases in the community today, things have taken a worrying turn.

Ministry of Health (MOH) revealed that one of the patients was a 58-year-old woman who reported to work at Bishan MRT station after displaying symptoms on 14 May.

This was in spite of the fact that she had started feeling onset of symptoms.

According to Channel NewsAsia (CNA), authorities are still conducting contact tracing for her case, making her currently an unlinked one.

These are the only details known so far.

Bishan MRT woman is only unlinked case in 18 May update

The other case is a 50-year-old man who reported to work at 1020 Tai Seng Avenue — a virus cluster that has over 120 confirmed cases linked to it, reports CNA.

Of today’s 305 cases reported, MOH said 303 are work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

None of them live outside dormitories.

As 99% are reportedly linked to known clusters, this means that the woman working at Bishan MRT station is the only one pending contact tracing.

ABC Hostel cluster now closed

Here are further highlights from MOH’s update tonight:

  • ABC Hostel at 3 Jalan Kubar is now closed after no more cases have been linked to it in the last 28 days
  • 495 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities — total number of recoveries now stands at 9,835
  • Number of new community cases has gone down from an average of 7 cases a day in the week before, to an average of 3 a day in the past week
  • Number of new cases among Work Permit holders living outside dormitories has also gone down, from an average of 4 a day in the week before, to an average of 1 a day in the past week.

Don’t take ‘Circuit Breaker’ progress for granted

‘Circuit Breaker’ is due to end in 2 weeks. It’s unfortunate that a case like today’s has sprung deep concerns over the progress we’ve made so far.

As community cases continue to remain low, we do hope the trend continues after today’s update.

In the meantime, we can’t stress this enough, but please stay at home as much as possible. It may not be wise to take our ‘Circuit Breaker’ progress for granted.
