Forget the SG50 triplets — the Bishan 5 otters have done it again.
Meet the SG51 quintuplets.
Yesterday (11 Feb), Fast Snail — who usually follows and uploads video footages of the Bishan otter family — noticed 5 new additions to the original family of five.
He immediately took to the web to celebrate the newborns by uploading a video of the family of 10.
The pups, which are estimated to be about 1.5 months old and born in Dec 2015, are roughly one-fifth the size of an adult otter.
They are also proving to be quite a handful for Mom.
Looks like Bishan 10 will be a more suitable name for the otter family now.
Although Fast Snail did not reveal the exact location of the otters, he dropped a hint saying that they frequent the Kallang Basin and Marina Bay, and that “luck and patience” is required to find them.
At the beginning, Bishan Park welcomed a pair of male and female otters who gave birth to 3 pups — fondly known by otter watchers as the “SG50 triplets”.
The Sg50 triplets made their debut last year in April when Singapore celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Soon after, the family was named “Bishan 5”.
Bishan 5 was later spotted at unusual places.
On Oct 2015, the family even took a tour around St. Andrew’s Junior College where they were spotted gambolling through the track.
These otters have also been sighted at Marina Bay, Gardens By The Bay, Botanic Gardens, East Coast Beach and even in closer-to-home areas, such as Punggol Waterway and Bishan-Ang Mo Kio park.
From time to time, they move into inland Singapore to source for fresh water.
Some of these mischievous otters were also suspected to have sunk their teeth into $80,000 worth of ornamental koi in Sentosa.
Head down to Kallang river basin and Marina Bay to catch a glimpse of these precious pups.
And remember, you need lots of patience and luck to see them in action.
