An elderly, visually impaired couple in Hyderabad, India reportedly lived with their deceased son at home for four days, not realising he had passed away.
The situation came to light after neighbours noticed a strong stench coming from their house and alerted the police.
Upon arriving on Monday (28 Oct) afternoon, officers found 60-year-old K Ramana and 65-year-old K Shanta Kumari in a semi-conscious state alongside the decomposed body that belonged to their 30-year-old son, K Pramod.
They suspected that Pramod died in his sleep four days earlier after serving food to their parents, reports the Times of India.
His body was sent to a hospital for a post-mortem to confirm the date and cause of death.
According to Hindustan Times, police revealed that Pramod had struggled with alcohol issues and had been living apart from his wife for about a year.
Unaware of his death, the couple continued to call him for food and water but didn’t get any response.
Due to their weak voices and immobile limbs, the elderly couple were unable to reach out to their neighbours for assistance.
Officers provided them with food and water during the rescue.
The police have entrusted both parents to their older son.
