A holiday cruise for a Singaporean mother and son unexpectedly turned into a tragedy.
On Monday (18 Nov), the 10-year-old boy was bathing in the cruise ship‘s pool when he drowned. The ship was docked at a port in Langkawi.

The 10-year-old victim, identified as Alan Heng Kai Lun, was believed to be bathing in the pool before he drowned.

According to Malaysian news agency Bernama, a pool attendant and other visitors were also bathing in the pool but failed to save the 10-year-old from drowning.
The victim’s body was sent to a hospital in Langkawi.
The ship on which the tragedy happened was reportedly due to leave for Phuket at 10.30pm last night (18 Nov).
The police chief said they received an emergency call around 7.30pm “regarding a drowning incident involving a child in the swimming pool of the cruise ship”.
It is truly saddening to see such a young life lost during what was supposed to be an enjoyable time for a family.
