13-year-old boy gets electrocuted twice after train surfing in Brazil

A 13-year-old boy was electrocuted twice after train surfing at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil on 18 Nov. Train surfing is a dangerous activity where one rides recklessly above a train.

According to the railway operator, SuperVia, the boy first had an electric shock after coming in contact with the train’s overhead line.

He then passed out from the shock, said witnesses.

SuperVia has said in a statement that it regrets the incident, adding that it has been running an educational campaign about the risks of train surfing since September due to a number of such cases.

Additionally, it also warned witnesses of electric shocks not to provide assistance “directly” as doing so can put their own lives at risk.
