On Sunday (13 Oct), a 10-year-old boy in Malaysia was found dead without his head and right arm following a crocodile attack.
The attack occurred at about 7am when Denis Rodi was bathing with five other friends at the beach, reported Malaysian news outlet Sinar Harian.
Lahad Datu district police chief Dzulbaharin Ismail said the boy was grabbed and dragged by the reptile into the middle of the sea.
His family members immediately began search and rescue efforts but were unable to locate him.
The victim’s body was eventually found about 600 metres from the scene after the police were alerted to the incident.
However, the body was found without the head and right arm.
“The victim sustained injuries to the head and right hand and was confirmed dead,” Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin told Sinar Harian.
Wildlife officer Silvester Saimin told the Malaysian news site that the children were brought to the beach by their aunts.
He noted that the victim was in the middle of the group when the crocodile attacked.
Mr Silvester said his team spotted two crocodiles in the ocean and fired one shot at each reptile, but both managed to escape underwater.
He added the area would continue to be monitored as crocodiles often appear along the beach.
Just last month, a 6-year-old girl was dragged away by a crocodile while bathing in Sarawak, Malaysia.
