A man fell to his death from a bridge near the Sultan Iskandar checkpoint in Johor Bahru (JB) on Thursday (31 Oct) at around 4.45pm.
The man, identified as a Sri Lankan national in his 30s, had leapt from the bridge in an alleged attempt to evade immigration checks.
He reportedly landed on a car passing below the bridge and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Footage circulating on social media shows the man climbing over the bridge’s railings and squeezing through the glass panels.
He then fell from the bridge, appearing to have landed head-first on a black car directly underneath the bridge.
The impact of the fall left the man lying motionless on the ground.
Bystanders, including the car’s driver, gathered around to check on him.
Additional photos on social media showed police officers inspecting the scene and securing the area.
A white cloth was also seen placed over the man’s body.
The scene, based on surrounding landmarks, appears to be on the bridge connecting the Sultan Iskandar checkpoint to JB Sentral.
In a statement on Facebook, Johor Bahru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat revealed that the victim was a factory operator in his 30s.
Preliminary investigations suggest he attempted to avoid inspection by immigration officers, leading to the fatal fall.
Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, and authorities have classified the case as a “sudden death” due to the absence of criminal elements.
