8 reportedly dead after bulldozer runs over shoppers in China market, driver beaten by enraged bystanders

Bulldozer runs amok at Beijing market, killing 8 people

Eight people were reportedly killed at a market in Beijing, China, after a bulldozer ran amok and struck shoppers.

The mass casualty occurred at the Dahanji Traditional Rural Market in Fangshan District on Sunday (29 March).

Loader allegedly ploughed through crowd

According to leaked video footage, the incident occurred around 11am during the market’s peak hours.

A yellow heavy loader suddenly veered into the crowded shopping area, accelerating through the narrow streets.

The vehicle was seen swerving and turning sharply, instantly levelling numerous stalls.

Witnesses report that angry bystanders attempted to stop the driver by hurling stools and objects at the bulldozer, but their efforts had little to no effect on the heavy machinery.

Victims lay in pools of blood following rampage

Desperate screams filled the air as the loader reportedly ran directly over several shoppers.

Images of victims lying unconscious in pools of blood amidst the wreckage of destroyed stalls were shared on social media.

Local witnesses claimed that at least seven or eight individuals showed no signs of life immediately following the attack.

Driver beaten by enraged mob at the scene

The driver, identified by witnesses as a middle-aged man, was eventually dragged from the operator’s seat.

He was immediately surrounded and severely beaten by an enraged mob, leaving him bleeding from head injuries on the pavement.

However, the driver’s alleged motive was unconfirmed.

Online footage and keywords have been removed and filtered

Neither the Beijing Fangshan Police nor local government authorities have issued an official statement regarding the situation.

It was reported that mainland Chinese social media platforms such as Weibo and Douyin have filtered keywords related to the incident.

Allegedly, video footage of the rampage is being systematically removed, making it difficult to verify the exact casualty figures through official channels.

Market has been closed after tragedy

After the incident, the market’s official WeChat account was completely wiped of all past content.

In addition, it was purported that the Market Management Office issued a notice that it would be closed for upgrades and service optimisation, effective 29 March.
