Earlier this week, a video surfaced online depicting a bullying incident at a Malaysian school involving several students.
In the clip, the victim, 13, is surrounded by six seniors in a school restroom, with two 15-year-old girls slapping her before the recording ends.
The incident, which took place on 14 June around 10.30am, prompted immediate disciplinary action by the school.
According to Sin Chew Daily, two of the students involved in the bullying have been expelled from the secondary school, which is located in Perak’s Kerian district.
Additionally, four others present will face a seven-day suspension, with the dates to be determined.
In a press conference, the school administration said it immediately formed an investigation team as soon as it was made aware of the viral bullying video.
It also facilitated a meeting between the families involved, where the bullies’ parents apologised to the victim’s family.
Police representatives were present at the meeting as well.
Despite these efforts, the victim’s family deemed the apologies insufficient and plans to file a police report for further action.
On Tuesday (25 June), Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri issued a statement regarding the bullying incident.
He confirmed that the victim’s family had lodged a police report and that the case is currently being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Police believe the motive for the bullying was jealousy, as the 13-year-old girl was reportedly close with a boy from the same school.
