Four Vietnamese men, suspected of orchestrating a series of high-profile burglaries in Malaysia, were killed in a gunfight with police during a raid on 12 Nov.
Active since 2018, the gang is suspected of committing 44 thefts, amassing loot worth approximately RM4.3 million (S$1.2 million).
The police operation took place late in the evening at a luxury condominium in KL, where the men had been hiding.
The burglars were notorious for using drills to break into steel safes, targeting homes and offices in vacant buildings.
They were quick in their thefts and difficult to identify from CCTV footage due to their foreign status.
According to authorities, they had committed their latest theft just two days prior to the raid.
During the police raid, when officers attempted to arrest them, the burglars opened fire.
In response, the police shot back, leading to a deadly gunfight in which all four burglars were killed.
Following the confrontation, authorities discovered that the men had been armed with two pistols and two parangs.
Their bodies were transported to a hospital for autopsy, and all four were found to possess valid passports.
The investigation is ongoing, with KL police working to determine how long the suspects had been in Malaysia and whether any members of their group remain at large.
