Burst pipe in Clementi cuts off water supply to 70 households for more than 15 hours

PUB water wagons sent to Clementi residents after burst pipe cuts off water supply

A burst pipe in Clementi caused 70 households to be without water for more than 15 hours.

Jurong GRC MP Tan Wu Meng said in a Facebook post on Monday (25 Nov) that it happened next to Block 324 Clementi Ave 5 “in the middle of the night”.

In the clip, which appeared to have been taken before dawn, sounds of water splashing could also be heard.

The MP said urgent repairs were ongoing, with national water agency PUB, the Land Transport Authority and the town council working hard to assist affected residents.

Residents had no water supply

A resident named Saad Ali told 8world News that he woke up at 4.30am to use the toilet but found that although he could flush, the cistern wasn’t replenished with water.

No water flowed from his taps either, then he heard the sound of water from downstairs and realised that “ponding” had occurred.

He said this was the first time he’d encountered a burst pipe in his 40 years of living in Clementi.

The “ponding” situation was resolved at about 7am, he added.

A third-floor resident named only as Ms Lee said she tried to take a shower past 12am and discovered that there was no water supply, a state of affairs she described as “inconvenient”.

The FoodHub coffee shop at Block 325 was also affected, with a stallholder saying he had to collect water seven to eight times in the morning.

Nearly 70 households affected

PUB said in a Facebook post that water supply was disrupted for nearly 70 households on the lower floors of Blocks 324 and 325, as well as businesses on the ground floor.

A water wagon was dispatched to provide temporary water supply to them.

They also distributed ready-filled bags of water.

In an update later that evening, PUB said water supply to affected households and businesses was fully restored at 5pm — more than 15 hours after it was alerted to the burst pipe at 1.30am.

Pipe burst at Clementi construction site: PUB

PUB explained that the pipe involved was a 150mm-diameter water main.

It has burst at a nearby construction site, caused flooding on the ground floor of Block 324.

PUB dispatched its service crew on site to isolate the leak and commence repair works, and is investigating the cause of the leak.
