Car narrowly misses pedestrian after beating red light in Tampines

On Monday (9 Dec), a car blatantly ran a red light along Tampines Avenue 5, narrowly avoiding a pedestrian who was crossing the road.

The alarming incident was caught on video and later shared on Facebook.

Pedestrian narrowly avoids collision

In the 49-second clip, a man is seen crossing the road quickly with his head down.

Suddenly alerted by the sound of an oncoming vehicle, he quickly halted mid-stride. The speeding car whizzed past the man, missing by mere centimetres.

In response, he raised his hand, seemingly in annoyance.

Remaining cautious, the pedestrian glanced around before safely continuing to the opposite side of the road.

Netizens voice concern over reckless driving

The video sparked online discussions about the dangers of reckless driving.

Many netizens expressed their outrage at the driver’s behaviour, emphasising the need for greater caution at pedestrian crossings.

“This type of reckless driver deserve[s] to have their licence revoked,” said one.

Some commended the pedestrian for his quick reflexes, while others urged the camcar owner to submit the footage to the traffic police for further action.

 

Potentially faces S$400 fine & 12 demerit points

For failing to conform to the traffic signal displayed, the driver could face a fine of S$400 and receive 12 demerit points.
