Driver dies in crash after pickup truck hits cows & loses control

A driver in Terengganu, Malaysia, lost his life in a crash involving a pickup truck that had lost control after hitting nine cows.

According to Kosmo Online, the accident occurred at around 6.42am on Tuesday (3 Dec).

The victim, 56-year-old auxiliary policeman Che Mohd Nasir Jaafar, was driving a Honda Civic from Kuala Terengganu towards Kota Bharu.

The other driver, a 45-year-old fireman, was driving the Toyota Hilux in the opposite direction, from Penarik to Kuala Terengganu.

He escaped unharmed.

Victim trapped in severely crushed car

Setiu District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Zain Mat Dris explained that the incident began when the Toyota Hilux collided with a herd of cows that had suddenly crossed the road.

The collision caused the pickup truck to skid and veer into the opposite lane, coming to a stop across the road.

Unaware of the earlier crash, Mr Jaafar, driving his Honda Civic, collided head-on with the Toyota Hilux.

The impact left his car severely crushed, and he became trapped inside.

Rescue personnel extricated Mr Jaafar from the wreckage, but he was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head and limb injuries.

 

His body was later transported to the Forensic Unit at Setiu Hospital for an autopsy.

8 cows also killed in accident

In addition to the death of the auxiliary policeman, eight cows were also killed in the incident.

Photos show their lifeless bodies scattered across the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.

Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries.

The incident is being investigated as a case of dangerous driving causing death.
