On 16 Nov, a man who installed a CCTV camera at a gold shop in Johor Bahru (JB) was caught stealing a ring with the same camera he set up.
According to a police report, the 41-year-old man is an employee of the jewellery store who was asked by his boss to install a CCTV camera.
In particular, the man stole a gold ring weighing 16.01 grams worth RM 5,814.32 (S$1,752), said South Johor Bahru District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat.
However, the man’s crime was recorded by the same surveillance camera he installed, reports Kosmo.
Upon checking the CCTV footage, the gold shop owner found that his employee stole the ring and immediately reported the incident to the police.
On 22 Nov, the police arrested the man, who was found with a pawn shop ticket for the stolen ring showing that he sold it in JB for RM 4,950 (S$1,491).
The suspect, who was found with no other criminal record, is currently being detained for four days to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating the case for theft.
If convicted, the suspect faces a maximum of 10 years in jail and a fine.
