Finding an affordable meal in the Central Business District (CBD) can be a Herculean task.
Even if one skips the trendy cafes and opts for a hawker meal at Lao Pa Sat, a simple meal can easily cost upwards of $6.
Thankfully, the kind-hearted folks at Mummy Yummy — a vegan hawker housed in Shenton House — have taken it upon themselves to provide truly affordable food for those in need.
Mummy Yummy wrote a Facebook post on Tuesday (13 Nov) explaining why some customers were getting discounts. Netizens were full of praise towards their cause, and the post went viral instantly.
Serving hearty meals like fried bee hoon and cai png, Mummy Yummy is a favourite among cleaners and housekeepers.
That’s because for the past 2 years, they were given 50% off their food, regardless of their orders. They need only be in their uniforms when placing their orders to enjoy the discount.
Mummy Yummy states that they hope to provide food security for those who need it most.
Despite rising food prices, Mummy Yummy has showed no signs of slowing down. Instead, it appears that they have every intention to expand their initiative.
The generous hawker stall has posted an appeal on social media for managers with suitable candidates to come forth, so a collaboration can be arranged.
The discount was widely praised by netizens. A taxi driver even added that he would jio fellow cabbies to the eatery.
This man who works in a car workshop claims he would feature the hawker in his company’s weekly ‘live’ show.
One netizen tried turning Mummy Yummy’s move into something political, but the hawker’s reply was pretty classy if you ask us.
If you don’t qualify for the 50% meals, don’t worry. Mummy Yummy just announced a free dine-in breakfast promotion that everyone is eligible for.
That said, do offer to pay if you can afford it, because it will surely go a long way to helping the store owners with their monthly overheads.
In any case, massive props to Mummy Yummy for helping those in need with their daily meals.
Let’s all take a page out of Mummy Yummy’s book and help in our own personal capacity, to make our society a better place for all.
