When the ‘Circuit Breaker’ is lifted on Tuesday (2 Jun), quite a few establishments will be allowed to operate once again.
However, that doesn’t include Community Centres/Clubs (CCs) and Residents’ Committee (RC) centres across Singapore.
As we enter Phase 1, CCs, RCs, as well as other People’s Association facilities will across the country will largely remain closed — except for the handling of essential services related to the Covid-19 pandemic, like the collection of masks and application of aid schemes.
The People’s Association (PA) informed the public about the extended closures of its facilities in a Facebook post on Monday (1 Jun).
It added that it was for “the safety and well-being of the public, our volunteers and staff”.
However, the public can still head there for essential services.
One of the such services is the collection of the free reusable masks that has been ongoing since 26 May.
As the masks are dispensed from some 400 vending machines, they can be collected 24 hours a day till 14 Jun.
If vending machines aren’t your thing, mask collection counters will also be open from 11am to 6pm.
Besides mask collection, the public may also head to selected CCs to apply for Financial Assistance Schemes.
These may be done from 11am to 6pm, on Mondays to Fridays but with the exception of public holidays.
For CCs at void decks, the hours of operation will be from 2pm to 6pm on those days.
Lastly, Singaporeans can also reset their SingPass during the same timings at selected CCs.
The PA has provided a poster for reference on what you can do at CCs and RCs during Phase 1.
While the closures of CCs and RCs in your neighbourhood might be a bit of an inconvenience, it’s all for the sake of safe distancing and keeping up the drop in community spread that we’ve successfully achieved during the ‘Circuit Breaker’.
So do bear in mind that we shouldn’t head down to the CC or RC unless really necessary.
We’ll look forward to the opening of these beloved community spaces when we finally move on to Phases 2 and 3.
