Changi DFS To Punish Staff Who ‘Cut Queue’ To Obtain Limited Edition Whisky

DFS Employees Cut Queue To Get Limited Edition Whisky Bottle

Ever wondered why you can never get items that are limited in quantity?

A reason could be that some of these items have already been choped by staff.

According to Straits Times, a customer at Changi Airport’s Duty Free Singapore (DFS) had waited for 4 hours to purchase a limited edition whisky only to have his ‘queue’ cut by DFS staff.

DFS has since responded to the matter saying that it will discipline its staff accordingly.

The 3 DFS staff took the remaining the whisky bottles, leaving none for the passenger.

Whisky released in limited quantities

The whisky – Chichibu Ichiro’s Malt Single Cask #1767 – is as expensive and rare as its name suggests.

Because of its $450 price tag as well as its limited availability, DFS only releases a set number of bottles every day.

Naturally, whisky-lovers would queue for hours just to purchase the item.

Staff cut customers’ queue

Two customers waited for their chance to purchase the whisky since 12pm and 2.30pm respectively.

They were told to wait if they wanted to purchase the item and that there was no guarantee of its availability.

However, when 3 DFS staff arrived at 4pm, they were immediately able to obtain the whisky.

One of the men asked why the staff were given preferential treatment. Initially, DFS staff denied selling the alcohol to these 3 men, but later admitted to it and told the traveler that there were no bottles left.

DFS takes disciplinary actions

DFS told Straits Times that it is currently investigating the case and will take appropriate disciplinary actions.

Though the product is available to both employees and customers, there was “improper behaviour” on part of the employees.

DFS will also forbid employees from purchasing the whisky during the Whisky Festival period.
