Crocodile spotted near Changi Naval Base, NParks continues monitoring waters

Soldiers at Changi Naval Base recently encountered an unexpected visitor after a crocodile was spotted in the nearby waters.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (4 Feb), the Republic of Singapore Navy shared a video of the sighting, showing a serviceman at RSS Singapura – Changi Naval Base observing the reptile through binoculars.

Text in the video initially read “Unknown creature sighted” before changing to “Crocodile sighted”.

Public urged to stay cautious around coastal areas

According to the Navy, the crocodile lingered briefly in the area before swimming off into the Singapore Strait.

The post thanked personnel from 9 Flotilla for “being alert as always”, adding that base teams have since stepped up monitoring and are working closely with the relevant authorities.

Members of the public were also advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution around coastal areas.

Navy asks if spotted crocodile is the Sentosa individual

The Navy also raised the possibility that the crocodile could be the same individual sighted off Sentosa late last month.

On 31 Jan, a crocodile was seen within the sea barrier at Sentosa Cove, prompting the Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) to suspend water activities at Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong beaches.

Another sighting was reported a day later near Marina South Pier.

Following the series of sightings, NParks said it is continuing surveillance and monitoring efforts across Singapore’s waters.
