Now this is a regular-sized plate of chicken rice.
We’re familiar with the average portion as this hero has taken close to a year’s worth of chicken rice pictures.
Enter Bangkok’s supersized rendition, posted by Weekend Go Where Singapore on 10 Dec.
Apparently, this humble chicken rice establishment in Bangkok lets you have an entire chicken rice platter for free. If you can polish it off in under an hour, that is.
Can’t decide between whether you’d prefer steamed chicken or fried chicken cutlets?
You don’t have to at Sri Yellow Pochana, a chicken rice stall located a stone’s throw away from Saphan Kwai BTS station in Bangkok.
They serve up hearty portions of Hainanese-style chicken rice with a Thai twist — a large serving of fried chicken cutlets. Sort of like the yin-yang version of the chicken rice dish we know and love.
Only this time, there’s 2kg of rice and 1kg of chicken heaped onto a plate wider than your face.
The rule is that if you single-handedly tank an entire platter and finish it within 1 hour, you’ll get it absolutely free. This includes finishing every grain of rice, every slice of chicken and all the cubes of jellied blood — cucumbers are optional.
You can also snap a picture with their realistic plastic model at the store front. Keep it as a fond memento or for bragging rights even if you don’t actually polish off the entire plate by yourself.
If you’re wondering if anyone has ever completed the Herculean task, the answer is a resounding yes.
This petite Japanese lady is the 19th winner of the challenge.
She finished it in a mere 37 minutes — 20 minutes to spare from the 1-hour limit. And yes, she got to keep the giant plate as a trophy.
We’re starting to suspect that she has a pocket dimension attached to her hip to store all the food.
FYI, they serve normal portions as well. And a wide array of local drinks to quench your thirst after downing slabs of meat.
Here’s all you need to know to get there.
Opening Times: 8am-5pm, Mon-Sun
Price: S$23 (550 Baht) per giant plate. You can choose between steamed/fried chicken. But only steamed chicken platters are available for the challenge.
