9 More Chinatown Fight Suspects Arrested After 3-Day Manhunt, Police Appealing For Info On 2 Others

A bloody fight in Chinatown on Sunday (10 May) sent a 19-year-old man to hospital and sparked an island-wide manhunt.

Police arrested 3 suspects on the scene, but were looking for others who were evidently involved.

Their 3-day search which ended yesterday (12 May) gathered 9 more suspects, though 2 men are still on their watch list to assist with investigations.

Rival gang members started fight over a woman

Citing the police, Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reports that the brawl was over a woman whom a member of each rival gang was fighting over.

At one point in the CCTV footage, a man enters the frame holding a woman’s hand while joining in the attacks briefly before fleeing.

A woman was among the 9 suspects police arrested between 10 and 12 May, confirmed TODAYonline.

The suspects, who were between 18 to 28 years old, were all allegedly members of an unlawful society. This alone puts them at risk of a fine up to $5,000, jail term up to 3 years, or both.

Police are also investigating them on 2 other charges, which entail the following possible punishments:

 
  • Unlawful assembly – up to 2 years’ jail, fine, or both
  • Rioting armed with deadly weapons – up to 10 years’ jail and caning

On top of these offences, they are under further investigation for breaking safe distancing rules under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

1 man is even facing an extra charge for hiding two of the suspects.

Police still searching for 2 others to help with investigations

Despite the successful arrests, 2 men are still on the police watch list to help with investigations, though their part in the fight is unclear.

The 2 men are Muhammad Syukri Muhammad Iskandar and Muhammad Ilham Noordin.
