Cookie Monster got in trouble recently, not for stealing from the cookie jar, but for speeding while driving in Germany.
The Sesame Street character, well-known for his obsession with cookies, is wanted by police in Germany after driving 60mph (~96.7km/h) in a 50 zone (80km/h).
According to The Mirror, German authorities believe the speeding incident was done on purpose. Police say a prankster dressed up as the iconic character and deliberately sped past a traffic camera on a highway in the city of Dortmund.
They also said the stunt was short-sighted.
“The fun of wearing a mask from the Muppet Show can quickly turn serious,” said the police spokesperson.
“It won’t help the relatives of a person who has been killed if the person who did it tearfully regrets their mask fun in court.”
Not only was speeding dangerous, but wearing a suit that obscures vision makes it doubly so.
The owner of the offending vehicle, an Audi hatchback, was identified by German authorities as a 57-year-old man from Hagen, located slightly south of Dortmund.
However, it is unclear if he was the driver, reported The Sun.
In either case, the driver faces a fine of €40 (S$57) for speeding and an additional €60 (S$86) for wearing a mask while driving.
German police are still searching for the driver.
