More than S$100K of goods seized

The arrests took place when police raided a dock in Masai, Johor. The two suspects, aged 45 and 50, were apprehended along with five tubs of cough syrup stashed in fishing barrels.

The 45-year-old suspect also tested positive for Nimetazepam, a hypnotic drug.

Aside from cough syrup, authorities also seized additional items during the raid, including the RM270,000 (S$80,000) yacht, an engine, a set of keys, and four mobile phones.

The total haul of seized goods is estimated at RM460,000 (S$139,000), making this the largest cough syrup bust in Malaysia this year.

Exchange done on international waters

According to local authorities, the men sourced the cough syrup in Malaysia and transported it out to international waters at night, where the transactions took place.

Reports indicate they made five to six trips every night, earning approximately RM200 (S$60) per trip.

The confiscated batch was reportedly intended for overseas distribution, potentially for the manufacturing of other drugs.

Both men will remain in custody until 7 Dec to assist with investigations.
