The Ministry of Health has made early confirmation of 180 new Covid-19 infections on Wednesday (1 Sep).
Most of the cases continue are locally transmitted, comprising:
However, there remain 90 local infections that are unlinked.
There are also 3 imported cases, all of whom tested positive during Stay-Home Notice (SHN).
Yesterday (31 Aug), MOH reported 156 new local cases of which 79, or more than half, were unlinked.
According to MOH’s graph included in their evening update, this is the highest number of local cases over the past month.
In fact, a quick look at the graph shows that there has been a substantial increase in local cases over the past week or so.
Despite the spike in local cases, the number of Covid-19 patients with severe illnesses remain rather stable and has in fact dipped since early August.
As of 31 Aug, 24 patients require oxygen supplementation or are receiving medical treatment in the ICU.
MOH also identified 2 new clusters linked to individual cases, with 4 and 3 cases respectively.
There are currently 70 active clusters in Singapore.
As of 30 Aug, 8,708,760 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to 4,511,747 people through our national vaccination programme.
Of these individuals, 4,319,031 have completed their vaccination regimen.
Separately, 167,242 doses of vaccines approved under WHO’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL) have been administered to 85,688 individuals.
Taking figures from both camps, 80% of our population has been fully vaccinated while 83% have gotten their first dose.
Despite the recent spike in community Covid-19 cases, it seems our healthcare system is still coping well since there isn’t a correlating rise in cases with severe illnesses.
Perhaps this is due to our nation’s high vaccination rate, which prevents infected individuals from falling seriously ill.
If you or anyone you know has not been vaccinated, be sure to do so ASAP to protect yourself and those around you.
