Based on figures from the past 2 weeks since 27 Mar, Thursday’s tally of 460 local dorm cases account for close to a quarter (24%) of total cases in Singapore as of 9 Apr.

A contingent taskforce has been formed through the efforts of Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Home Team, Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and MOH to further tackle the spread in workers’ dormitories.

Most of the logistics include getting food, water, WiFi and ample medical care to migrant workers affected in the clusters uncovered.

3 new clusters in Singapore continue to be traced

Thursday’s largest Covid-19 dorm cluster, S11 Dormitory in Punggol, accounted for 166 new cases alone.

Today’s MOH report identified 3 new clusters at the Immigration Checkpoint Authority (ICA) building in Kallang & National University Hospital (NUH) — including one more dorm at 31 Sungei Kadut Avenue – sandwiched between Choa Chu Kang & Bukit Panjang.

In light of recent events, the ICA Building will be closed for disinfection on Saturday (11 Apr). Those with reservations tomorrow (11 Apr) are advised to visit the facility on Monday (13 Apr) instead.

Besides gazetting affected dorms as quarantine sites, army camps in Jurong & Bedok have also been designated as places for the workers to reside in as they serve out their Stay Home Notices and/or quarantine orders.

Workers’ dormitories still account for largest clusters

After Shaw Lodge’s cluster was announced as the 5th dormitory cluster uncovered, netizens have raised concerns about the living conditions of migrant workers after pictures of their meals began circulating on social media.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong made an urgent address to the nation via a 10-min Facebook video on Friday, announcing measures to ramp up efforts to limit the spread of Covid-19 in migrant workers’ dormitories.

875 cases still warded, 32 in ICU

As for updates on patients who have recovered, at least 875 are still receiving treatment in respective healthcare facilities.

  • 32 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) cases
  • 7 deaths*

*An elderly patient from the Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home cluster has passed away, making the official death toll 7 in Singapore.

‘Circuit Breaker’ measures remain in effect till we stop this

As our nation works to contain the spread of the coronavirus within our communities, all citizens are advised to adhere strictly to these ‘Circuit Breaker’ advisories:

  • Stay home as much as possible
  • Wear a mask when you go outdoors
  • Limit contact with non-immediate family
  • Practice good hygiene & safe distancing

We’ll all have to do our part to make sure that we ‘flatten the curve’. And if we remain calm & vigilant, the effects of our social distancing will hopefully pay off soon.
