448 New Covid-19 Cases Confirmed On 21 May, 23rd Death Reported

S’pore Reports 448 New Covid-19 Cases On 21 May, 4 Community Cases Form New Cluster

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 448 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (21 May).

Of the new cases, 99% are linked to known clusters.

This brings the total number of reported cases in Singapore to 29,812.

14 community cases were reported, of which 13 involve Singaporeans/Permanent Residents (PRs). Of these:

  • 7 cases were picked up from active surveillance and screening of nursing home residents and pre-school staff
  • 4 are part of a family cluster linked to a dormitory
  • 2 are undergoing epidemiological investigations

The last community case involves 1 Work Permit holder testing positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, migrant workers living in dormitories made up 434 cases.

1 new cluster identified, 3 clusters closed

4 of today’s community cases are residents at Orange Valley Nursing Home at 6 Simei Street 3, effectively forming a new cluster.

These patients fall between the ages of 72 and 97, and were identified during MOH’s active testing at nursing homes.

Meanwhile, 3 clusters have not had any linked cases in 28 days, and are officially closed. They are at:

  • Natureland East Coast (907 East Coast Road)
  • Wing Fong Court (10 Lorong 14 Geylang)
  • 112 Neythal Road

23rd death reported, 910 cases discharged

Unfortunately, MOH reported Singapore’s 23rd death today.

The patient, Case 4689, was a 73-year-old Singaporean man. He tested positive for Covid-19 on 17 Apr, and had a history of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and hypothyroidism.

The National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) is currently extending assistance to his family.

Meanwhile, 910 patients were discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries in Singapore to 12,117.

901 cases still remain in the hospital, with 10 in critical condition.

Community cases might be higher due to new classification
