53-Year-Old Among 12 Covid-19 Fatalities On 2 Nov As Daily Cases Nearly Hits 3.5k

MOH Reports 12 Covid-19 Fatalities On 2 Nov Aged Between 53 And 93

After the relatively low daily case tally on Monday (1 Nov), Singapore reported a surge in cases on Tuesday (2 Nov) with 3,496 new infections.

There were also 12 Covid-19 fatalities, most of whom suffered from underlying medical conditions.

Our weekly infection growth rate currently stands at 1.09, up from 1.05 the previous day.

2 unvaccinated patients among 12 Covid-19 fatalities on 2 Nov

In an update on Tuesday (2 Nov) evening, MOH reported that 12 people, aged between 53 and 93, have passed away due to Covid-19 complications.

All but 2 of them suffered from existing medical conditions.

However, the 2 healthy patients were not vaccinated against the coronavirus, which puts them at greater risk of having a severe infection and even death.

To date, 430 individuals have passed away from Covid-19 in Singapore.

3,496 new infections on 2 Nov, including 3,352 in the community

On the same day, Singapore also saw 3,496 new infections. These include:

  • 3,352 community cases
  • 141 dormitory cases
  • 3 imported cases

While this is quite a substantial increase from the day ago, it’s perhaps expected given that cases typically spike on Tuesdays — a phenomenon that Minister Ong Ye Kung himself shared.

Not surprisingly, there was an uptick in our weekly infection growth rate, which currently stands at 1.09.

37.3% of ICU beds vacant

As of 2 Nov, 72.7% of our ICU beds are utilised, leaving 108 vacant.

This is roughly a 6% increase from the day before, which seems to be largely attributed to non-Covid ICU cases.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases who are hospitalised or receiving oxygen treatment remains rather stable.

IMH and St Luke’s Hospital part of 7 clusters under close monitoring

MOH is keeping a close eye on 7 active clusters.

Institute of Mental Health (IMH) remains the largest cluster on the list with 287 cases.

Amongst them, 271 are patients while 16 are staff members.

St Luke’s Hospital, another medical institution, is also part of the list, though it’s much smaller in size with just 21 cases.

The remaining clusters involve welfare and nursing homes:

  • Acacia Home – 11 new cases, 20 total
  • AWWA Community Home for Senior Citizens – 1 new case, 86 total
  • Banyan Home @ Pelangi Village – 3 new cases, 90 total
  • Jamiyah Home for the Aged (Tampines) – 2 new cases, 47 total
  • NTUC Health Nursing Home (Geylang East) – 4 new cases 11 total

Weekly growth rate still rather close to 1.00 mark

While the increase in daily cases can be understandably concerning, the silver lining is that our weekly infection growth rate is still hovering above the 1.00 mark — a tipping point that may give the authorities the confidence to ease measures.

Additionally, since cases are known to typically increase drastically on Tuesdays, perhaps the daily case count for the rest of the week might be more promising.

In the meantime, let’s be socially responsible and maintain good hygiene practices to keep ourselves and those around us safe.
