Apart from the relatively high number of local Covid-19 cases, Singapore has also been reporting its fair share of Covid-related deaths.
On Wednesday (25 Aug), the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported the passing of 2 individuals due to Covid-19 complications.
Both were seniors above 85 years old who had not been fully vaccinated.
In its evening update on Wednesday (25 Aug), MOH reported the passing of 2 seniors due to Covid-19 complications.
The first case involves an 86-year-old Singaporean man who was admitted to Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 1 Jul.
He had tested negative for Covid-19 multiple times, up until 28 Jul when his results came back positive.
Sadly, the senior passed away from Covid-19 complications on Tuesday (24 Aug).
He was partially vaccinated and had a history of medical conditions including:
The second case involves a 95-year-old Singaporean woman who passed away on Wednesday (25 Aug). She had tested positive for Covid-19 roughly 2 weeks prior.
After developing symptoms on 5 Aug, she was hospitalised at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). She later tested positive on 9 Aug.
The 95-year-old was unvaccinated and had a history of Alzheimer’s Disease.
As of 25 Aug, 52 people have passed away from Covid-19 complications in Singapore.
We have also reported Covid-19 deaths for 5 consecutive days between 21 and 25 Aug.
Despite the recent spike in local cases, the situation in our hospitals’ ICUs remains rather stable. Only 7 patients have remained in ICUs for the past 5 days.
There also appears to be a downward trend in Covid-19 patients who require oxygen supplementation.
As of Thursday (26 Aug), 19 patients are receiving such treatment — the lowest number within this month.
Most of the above cases continue to involve patients who have yet to receive their vaccines.
As of 24 Aug, the authorities have administered 8,619,767 jabs under our national vaccination programme.
Of the 4,486,367 individuals who received these vaccines, 4,261,137 have completed their vaccination regimen.
Separately, over 85,000 individuals have received 161,563 doses of other vaccines on WHO’s Emergency Use Listing.
Consolidating both groups, 78% of Singapore’s population have been fully vaccinated and 82% have received at least one dose.
The seemingly incessant news of Covid-19 fatalities lately has been rather worrying.
For affected families especially, losing their loved ones to the virus is surely devastating.
MS News extends our sincere condolences to them. May the deceased rest in peace.
