S’pore Records 3 More Covid-19 Fatalities, Youngest Was 50 Without Known Medical Conditions

Singapore Reports 3 Covid-19 Fatalities For 2nd Consecutive Day On 22 Sep

Though the majority of our Covid-19 fatalities involve seniors and those who are unvaccinated, there have been several younger cases too.

On Wednesday (22 Sep), the Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 3 more Covid-19 fatalities.

Although 2 were seniors aged above 60, the remaining fatality is a 50-year-old man who was unvaccinated but did not have any known medical conditions.

3 Covid-19 fatalities on 22 Sep, including unvaccinated 50-year-old

In its update on Wednesday (22 Sep), MOH reported 1,457 new Covid-19 cases and the passing of 3 patients.

The first casualty is a 65-year-old Singaporean man who was unvaccinated.

After testing positive on 1 Sep, he succumbed to the infection 3 weeks later on Wednesday (22 Sep).

He also suffered from various underlying medical conditions including:

  • Diabetes
  • End-stage kidney failure
  • High blood pressure

The 2nd fatality involves a 90-year-old Singaporean woman who passed away from Covid-19 complications on 21 Sep, roughly a week after testing positive.

Though fully vaccinated, her medical history comprised a long list of conditions such as:

  • Asthma
  • High blood cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Stroke

The last and perhaps most intriguing case involves a 50-year-old Singaporean man.

According to MOH, he tested positive on 13 Sep and passed away on Tuesday (21 Sep).

His relatively young age and clean bill of health aside, the deceased was apparently unvaccinated.

The 50-year-old is also the youngest Singaporean Covid-19 fatality thus far.

In total, 68 individuals have succumbed to complications arising from Covid-19 infections.

19 Covid-19 patients require ICU care

Though Singapore reported a significant increase in the number of daily cases, the number of patients who are severely ill remains stable.

As of 22 Sep, 145 individuals require oxygen treatment and 19 are receiving ICU care.

22 new cases added to Blue Stars Dormitory cluster

There continue to be new cases added to existing clusters monitored by MOH.

The cluster linked to Blue Stars Dormitory saw the largest growth with 22 new cases.

Meanwhile, other workers’ dormitories clusters like those at Woodlands Dormitory and Avery Lodge reported 8 and 17 new cases respectively.

The clusters linked to educational institutions such as LearnJoy Education Centre and My Little Campus (Yishun) reported 4 and 1 new cases respectively.

We should not take Covid-19 lightly

Regardless of vaccination status, we should not take Covid-19 lightly and should avoid unnecessary social gatherings as cases continue to rise.

That aside, our thoughts and condolences are with the families who have lost their loved ones due to Covid-19.

With Covid-19 cases constantly on the rise, we hope our healthcare system will remain robust and be able to cope with the influx of infections.
