11 Covid-19 Cases On 17 Feb

The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed on Wednesday (17 Feb) that there are 11 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore.

Of the new cases, 10 are imported. There is one community case included today.

11 Covid-19 cases on 17 Feb, 10 imported

MOH said that today’s cases include 10 which are imported.

They had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN), and were tested during their stay.

Meanwhile, the remaining infection is one from the community. Details about these cases will be available at night.

Lowest case count on 16 Feb since Nov 2020

Recent changes to the way MOH determines Covid-19 infections meant that yesterday’s case count was the lowest since Nov 2020, with just 1 new infection.

We have been determining current or past infections based on serology tests, and Work Permit and S Pass holders from the following sectors arriving from higher-risk countries must take both PCR and serology tests:

  • Construction
  • Marine
  • Process sectors
  • Migrant domestic workers
  • Confinement nannies

The sole infection yesterday was a migrant domestic worker who arrived from Indonesia on 2 Feb.

Although she tested positive for her serology test, she didn’t undergo a serology test upon arrival in Singapore and so MOH can’t conclude that she isn’t infectious.

Cases will only be taken out from the case count if they’re deemed to not be infectious upon arrival here, and that the serology test is positive.

Patience as we await more vaccinations

Despite the lower case count, the existence of Covid-19 in the community is still likely.

Until more of the population is inoculated against the virus, we can’t afford to celebrate yet.

This will not be an easy wait since this is what we’ve been told for months, but we’re progressively vaccinating more of the population.

As we hope to have most of the population vaccinated by the end of the year, there is still light at the end of the tunnel.
