The beginning of the end of brick-and-mortar stores is nigh, with big names like Metro and Forever 21 announcing outlet closures recently.
Now the plague has found its next victim – the flagship Crate & Barrel store at Orchard Gateway.
According a report by The Straits Times today (29 Oct), the outlet will only stay open till 10 Nov. From 11 Nov, customers can only visit the ION Orchard store.
Most who’ve walked along Orchard Central and 313 @ Somerset would have seen the big Crate & Barrel store at Orchard Gateway.
While not many of us would’ve stepped in since furniture and home decor aren’t on our typical weekend shopping list, the store has become a fixture there.
News of its impending closure may have hence dealt quite a tough blow on regular shoppers.
The Straits Times reported today that Crate & Barrel’s outlet at Orchard Gateway @ Emerald will close after 5 years.
The Orchard Gateway outlet, which has 5 storeys of retail space, will only be open till 10 Nov, before closing down permanently.
Good news for Crate & Barrel fans, however – the American furniture brand’s ION Orchard outlet will remain open, and so will their online shopping platform.
So if visiting their only physical store left in Orchard brings back painful memories of the Orchard Gateway store, you can simply browse through their online catalogue.
The company may also expand into Malaysia soon, so hopefully that means lower prices on their high-quality home furniture and decor.
If you’re expecting massive closing down sales, you’d be in for a disappointment.
A spokesperson from Crate & Barrel informed MS News that no such sale will happen, though the Orchard Gateway outlet will have a floor sample sale till its last day on 10 Nov.
The sale will essentially be on current display items which are either in mint condition, or have slight defects like minor scratches from customers trying out the pieces.
But hey, if you’re not too picky, that sounds like a pretty good deal. Here’s how to get there, to check out what they have to offer:
